Why you need to wash your plates & clothes at night

By Colleen B

Stop.
Don’t run your dishwasher and washing machine in the daytime.
Wash your clothes and dishes during off-peak hours instead and save yourself a bit of cash!
To take pressure off networks during peak-times, you might find that your utility companies will offer cheaper rates at the weekends, holidays and weekdays from 10pm – 8:30pm.
It could even make a difference depending on the season and which part of the UK you live in.
The best way to work out whether you can take advantage of off-peak lower charges is to call your utility company and ask how your bill is broken down.
Happy saving!
(Please keep safe and be aware not to leave the washing machine or dishwasher running while you are out, or overnight. Have a working smoke alarm on each level of your home.)

Tips on saving energy on your dishwasher

1. Run an eco or energy-save program to use less water.
2. Place big items at the back and sides to help the water reach the detergent dispenser.
3. Aim for a full load, every time.
4. Use a delayed start function to run your machine at night.

Tips on saving energy on your washing machine

1. Wash clothes on a short cycle and lowest water level.
2. Soak heavily stained items first.
3. Wait for a full load before running the machine.
4. Use a cold water or 30°C program where possible.
